    Pronounced "U-R-L." The address that identifies the location of a given Internet feature. Here are the six main features available on the Internet and their URL prefixes . Notice that the "mailto" and "news" URL's do not contain two foward slashes:

  • ftp:// FTP directory of downloadable files
  • mailto: Electronic mail
  • news: Usenet newsgroup
  • Gopher:// Gopher server
  • telnet:// Applications on remote host
